Take a trip back in time with Maynard and Millie

Do to the fact that I can’t think of anything to take a picture of or write about it is time to pull out the old pics.  So enjoy the pics from Black’s Cliff from the 50’s and 60’s.  John the Groomer guy tells me this snowmobile is an old evinrude from about 1968.

By the way ever wonder why the intitials MJB are on the office door?  Stands for Millie Jeanette and Maynard James Black they both had the same initials MJB.  Ben thought til this year it stood for mom, Jake and Ben

Snow is adding up and I think it is safe to say that 6 inches of snow is covering the Northwoods

We have not plowed yet but I think it might be time to get the truck going.  Thankfully the guys got the plow on a couple of weeks ago.  There is nothing besides dock straightening that I dread more than getting the plow on the truck or gator.  It is a test of marriage to see if you are still talking with one another after a hair raising and swearing fest getting everything lined up and connected.  It is supposed to be easy but it never is except for this year when Steve was Troy’s assistant and of course it went right on done in 15 minutes.

I just wanted to prove that the guys did get the siding back on before spring.  No stain til the mercury hits atleast 50.  Just happy to see the black paper hidden by siding

Everyone in Blog land say a little prayer for Steve today.  He is going on the search for Lifespring’s septic tank lid today.  Just send him good wishes and put in a good wish for him on his search.  Those that do not have a septic tank in the winter today enjoy being on city sewer

The Calendar order has been made.  Took some fanageling (is that a word?) with Walgreens over 63 dollars in postage.  I got them to reduce the postage in half and I can keep the price of 15 for the calendars.  I ordered 30 of them and have orders for 21.  If anyone else wants one let me know.  They should be here in a few days and hopefully I can get them in the mail on Friday so they can make it under the Christmas tree

Poe's winter weather report.... IT IS COLD!

Poe would like to report the first sub zero temps last night.

Is the lake safe?

Is the lake safe?

I probably could have done this test last week but it has been a little busy so Poe and I went down to see if his far back (way back) wild wolf genes senses say it is safe to go out on the lake

According to Poe it is safe

I humored you going down to the lake, even went running out on the cold lake OPEN THE DOOR!  I am not a wolf dog I am a mushy golden and it feels like Siberia out here

I leave Siberia to the nutty Huskies, I will take a cushy bed by the woodstove

Doug and Vicki where are you.  Could your trip to Jamaica really have been better than a weekend with Rob, Barb and Bob?

Poe would also like to put out a thank you to Rob, Barb and Bob for saving him from crossing his legs while the Gibson’s were gone to the Swim Tournament.  He had a slice of heaven sitting by the fire on a rug with the rawhide that Barb bought for him.

Last call for Calendars.  I have them at 25% off at Walgreens.  I am making the order email info@blackscliff.com to get on the list.  So far I have orders for 20 of them and they should get to you by Christmas.  I hope to have them in envelopes and out my door by Friday

Sorry for the delay in the announcement of a winner I was supposed to have it up by 9am on Saturday.  We ended up on a hair raising trip down Hwy 70 in snow Saturday morning to get to a Swim Tournament in Phillips by 8:15 am.  Roads were terrible and no internet connection.  Tournament lasted til 5pm 92 events and another fun drive home in the dark on snow covered roads left me with no desire to get on the computer at 7:30pm when the woodstove and couch were looking good along with a movie

The big winner of the Black’s Cliff Can Contest is Chuck with a guess of 325, the actual lbs on the truck was 345.  Chuck send me your home address and I will get the 5 dollar coin out to you for Hilltop.

Til Ice Out Contest March 1st….. that is unless I come up with any other contests to pass the winter away.

How many pounds are on the truck?

How many pounds are on the truck?

Ok this is half of the aluminum cans crushed from the last year at the resort.  We took them up to sell.  Should have done this in August when the price was up today it was 20 cents a lb.  Usually it is in the 30’s or low 40’s.  We decided to leave the 2nd truck load til spring.  So here is the question a 5 dollar coupon is on the line for Hilltop’s bar.  How many lbs are on the truck?  Enter your guesses in the comment section and I will anounce the big winner tomorrow at 9am.  Will Amy our Math Teacher from DC pull off the big win again and have to come a week early to take Linda out to Hilltop with her?

Put the camera down and give a hand!

Put the camera down and give a hand!

Why do we always pick the coldest day of the year to do the cans?  You know winter is here to stay when Troy’s Carhart’s are out.

Anyone recognize anything they left behind this summer?

The couple that collects the cans has been doing it for over 25 years.  They are some of the hardest working folks I have ever met, rain, shine cold whatever Wisconsin throws at them I have seen them in the Bowling Alley parking lot loading up the truck

The big pay off

The big pay off

Next stop bank to put the money in the old college funds for the boys.  Jake, Ben and Grant say thanks to everyone that helped seperate them.  Next summer when you see them picking up garbage in the gator and later crushing all the cans you will know where they all end up

Get your guesses in how many pounds were on the truck.  I would love to know what other accomdation in the nation features their garbage on their website:)

Why would Steve be running around town with tree parts in his van?  He has been spotted pulled off the road by the swamp with an axe in his hand.  Luckily no hunters shot him or Olja on their trips to the swamp the last week or so.  His advice is if you hear a shot close by just hit the ground and wave a white flag of surrender

Steve’s best deals on wreathes the best in the Northwoods!  How much would wreathes like this sell for in DC, Atlanta, downtown Chicago or California?
