Kindling Raid

Kindling Run

With winter closing in and the kindling pile looking a little low (besides the toilet seats from yesterday) it was time to head up to a lumber company and get a truck load of slab left overs to build up the shed supply. Picking through the pile can be a challenge. Most folks take the larger slabs for firewood, we needed the smaller stuff that is easy to split

When starting your fire at the resort appreciate the work put into the kindling. Usually Craig’s remodeling projects keep us supplied but once in awhile time to head to the lumber company. Next step is unloading, chop saw, splitting, loading into wheel barrow and piling in the shed. Keeps everyone busy

Snow covering the lake

Snow covering the lake

Enough snow came down in the afternoon to cover the lake. On our way back from the lumber company we saw our first ice fisherman on Lake Minocqua. The other day we measured the ice at about 2 inches. It always amazes me the first crazy people that head out on the lakes. I guess the walleye fishing is supposed to be good at this time, personally I am not taking my life in my hands to get walleye and will happily go to Save More for some fillets vs. creeping out on a barely frozen lake to sit on a cold bucket and watch a 6 by 6 hole and pray the ice is thick enough.

This 8 point along with a doe were taken on the 40 across from the resort. During bow season we had another 8 point taken. Hopefully a couple more doe will be taken in the next few days on the 40.  I have not heard yet from our hunting groups that hunt away from the resort, I am sure they got a few.  Hazelhurst is a great place to hunt due to all the public land in the area thanks to the paper company land.  Lots of land is also in forest crop management and the owner to avoid taxes has to agree to open hunting on their land.  Between those 2 things most folks find a great spot to sit. We open up our 2, 40 acre private acres based on seniority at the resort and gives some great private hunting opportunities where you don’t have to worry about yahhoo’s walking through with a loaded gun.  We also open the 40’s up to bow hunting so if anyone is interested in that let me know, we have plenty of openings during the bow season

Craig's big announcment

Craig's big annoucement

For anyone who has pinched their butt on a crack in one of the many oak toilet seats around the is resort this picture is for you! Craig would like everyone to know that he has felt your pain (literally) and has decided to replace the remaining oak seats with plastic.

The complaints from the cleaning crew also helped him make this decision. Who ever heard of absorbent wooden toilet seats when easy to clean plastic ones are available. Only at Black’s Cliff do you get announcements like this. I am sure there are many happy butts out there that would agree this is good news! We waste no good wood at the resort and these toilet seats will be warming Craig’s work space at the Chateau before the end of the week

Hello All

The Black’s Cliff 2009 calendar is done.  I was hoping to invite anyone into my Walgreens room and let them order them individually.  Unfortunately Walgreens does not let you invite others to view and order it.  So I am going to have to take orders for it like last year.   I believe with shipping and handling last year I had them down to 15 dollars.  If I can get them cheaper through a Walgreens offer I will reduce the price but I won’t know til I order.  I will be ordering by December 6th.  So let me know how many you would be interested in.  Email info@blackscliff.com with the number you would like.  Don’t send a check yet til I know the cost I just need to know for now who wants them and how many.

If you are like me, and a parent of kids under 18, or just someone who does not like inappropriate pop ups on the internet, I have the program to solve your problems.  I just installed Cyberpatrol on my computer.  If you have no filter on your computer and young kids in the house you may want to check it out.  We were running into pop ups on websites the kids were going to for info on their video games.  Cyberpatrol.com solved it and made my computer safe again for my kids to use and me to have one less thing to worry about.  It was 40 for the year, the best 40 dollars I have ever paid!

Funny thing is Cyber Patrol blocks the Birchbark Blog saying it has adult content.  Only thing I can think is the spam links that get caught in my comment section that I block.  You would not believe some of those links I have to delete.  I am able to override Cyber Patrol and let the kids on the site and anyother sites it blocks that I think are ok for them.  I have no idea why I did not sign up for this years ago, one less worry.  Otherwise your computer becomes a portal for all sorts to things you don’t want your kids to see and it is just a click away.

Snow coming in tonight along with Deer Camp 2008.  Snow in the pines pics tomorrow?

This morning I put more time into the 2009 calendar.  I am doing the ordering a little different this year.  If you would like to see it and decide if you want to order it, send me an email and I will invite you into my room at Walgreens.  You will be able then to view it, and order it yourself.  It usually comes with in 2 or 3 days so there is no hurry.  They have new offers at Walgreens. each week and I would wait to order til a good offer comes from Walgreens.  Last week all calendars were 33% off and I am sure they will do that again in the next week or so.  I will keep everyone posted.

I am working yet on November and December pictures and should have it done hopefully by tomorrow.  I think it is looking pretty good and has tons of day dreaming pics to keep everyone happy at work

The under 12 crew at the resort have been begging to get the sleds out for the little bit of snow we had the last few days.  They made the most out of the snow yesterday

I went down to the lake this morning expecting to see a frozen lake and this is what I saw.  I think the wind picked up and broke it up
