A few of the happy deer to see the gun deer season come to an end

Time to come out of hiding

Time to come out of hiding

I was wondering if this 3 some made it through the deer hunt.  Not sure where they were hiding but they are back to testing my brakes in snow on Lower Kaubashine

Anyone remember this window

Anyone remember this window

Anyone remember laying in bed and looking out this window at the lake?  You can see Troy or Craig if you have a spot in your house for this piece of the Northwoods.  I don’t recommend it for outside windows for heating reasons but it is a cool old window

Air Conditioned Cabin

Air Conditioned Cabin

Picture for anyone who has wanted a Air Conditioned Cabin at Black’s Cliff.  Anne Scully how is this for air conditioning (it is the closest we will ever get to it)  Anne remember you are the one who asked for it and Craig will be adjusting your rate for this cabin improvement

This picture is for Rich and Gloria, their view of the lake has been expanded for their bedroom.  Craig will also be adjusting your rate for this extra view and air conditioning

Everyone else will be happy to see the new larger more heat efficient windows in place in Birchwood.  Will the siding make it back on before spring….

For all Chrismas Light Lovers out there this picture is for you

Beginning to look like Christmas

Beginning to look like Christmas

Every year the extension cords and LED lights come out to as many small trees like this that I can reach.  I love seeing the trees lite up every year.  Off to Ace Hardware for a few more lights this year.  I have my eyes on a couple more trees to light up.  I think we are up to half a dozen now through the resort that we light up.  The prettiest one is by Wildflower and when we turn off the driveway lights it is a single tree away from all other lights lite up in the woods

Where's the fish?

Where's the fish

A sure sign that ice fishermen have been on the lake is seeing eagles sitting on the ice eating the remains of what the ice fishermen have left behind. These are not the best pictures in the low light of the eagle on Lower Kaubashine but the best my camera was going to give me.

I was missing my camera the other day for the first ice fishing pic on the lake. I have head the ice is now about 6 inches. A couple of icefishermen where out in the exact spot the eagle is in the pic.

Great Hunters from the South Arrive

Great Hunters from the South Arrive

Ready to hunt, orange suspenders and all.  The look on their faces is the reason I love to open up our 40 to hunting familes.   It provides a safe area to do a little hunting with kids.

Hey Dad where are your orange pants?

There is more Blaze orange in this picture than a Cabbella’s store

Lets go daylight is waisting

It is the only time of year I don’t mind seeing kids with guns heading down the driveway in the resort.  Off to one of the 3 permanent deer stands we have in the woods.  Last one there gets to have the radio to report in to mom

Kindling Raid

Kindling Run

With winter closing in and the kindling pile looking a little low (besides the toilet seats from yesterday) it was time to head up to a lumber company and get a truck load of slab left overs to build up the shed supply. Picking through the pile can be a challenge. Most folks take the larger slabs for firewood, we needed the smaller stuff that is easy to split

25 dollars a truck load best deal in town!

When starting your fire at the resort appreciate the work put into the kindling. Usually Craig’s remodeling projects keep us supplied but once in awhile time to head to the lumber company. Next step is unloading, chop saw, splitting, loading into wheel barrow and piling in the shed. Keeps everyone busy

Snow covering the lake

Snow covering the lake

Enough snow came down in the afternoon to cover the lake. On our way back from the lumber company we saw our first ice fisherman on Lake Minocqua. The other day we measured the ice at about 2 inches. It always amazes me the first crazy people that head out on the lakes. I guess the walleye fishing is supposed to be good at this time, personally I am not taking my life in my hands to get walleye and will happily go to Save More for some fillets vs. creeping out on a barely frozen lake to sit on a cold bucket and watch a 6 by 6 hole and pray the ice is thick enough.

This 8 point along with a doe were taken on the 40 across from the resort. During bow season we had another 8 point taken. Hopefully a couple more doe will be taken in the next few days on the 40.  I have not heard yet from our hunting groups that hunt away from the resort, I am sure they got a few.  Hazelhurst is a great place to hunt due to all the public land in the area thanks to the paper company land.  Lots of land is also in forest crop management and the owner to avoid taxes has to agree to open hunting on their land.  Between those 2 things most folks find a great spot to sit. We open up our 2, 40 acre private acres based on seniority at the resort and gives some great private hunting opportunities where you don’t have to worry about yahhoo’s walking through with a loaded gun.  We also open the 40’s up to bow hunting so if anyone is interested in that let me know, we have plenty of openings during the bow season

Craig's big announcment

Craig's big annoucement

For anyone who has pinched their butt on a crack in one of the many oak toilet seats around the is resort this picture is for you! Craig would like everyone to know that he has felt your pain (literally) and has decided to replace the remaining oak seats with plastic.

The complaints from the cleaning crew also helped him make this decision. Who ever heard of absorbent wooden toilet seats when easy to clean plastic ones are available. Only at Black’s Cliff do you get announcements like this. I am sure there are many happy butts out there that would agree this is good news! We waste no good wood at the resort and these toilet seats will be warming Craig’s work space at the Chateau before the end of the week

Hello All

The Black’s Cliff 2009 calendar is done.  I was hoping to invite anyone into my Walgreens room and let them order them individually.  Unfortunately Walgreens does not let you invite others to view and order it.  So I am going to have to take orders for it like last year.   I believe with shipping and handling last year I had them down to 15 dollars.  If I can get them cheaper through a Walgreens offer I will reduce the price but I won’t know til I order.  I will be ordering by December 6th.  So let me know how many you would be interested in.  Email info@blackscliff.com with the number you would like.  Don’t send a check yet til I know the cost I just need to know for now who wants them and how many.
