On a side note and a resort owner rant.  I would like someone to explain to me why anyone sitting around a firepit at the resort with all the wood we have piled around the resort, would take an axe and cut down transplanted trees around Restawhile and throw them in a firepit and burn them.  It happened this weekend and I am sure those out in blog land that enjoy the area and the resort will be as shocked as I was to see 5 trees by Restawhile wantonly butchered and burned.  The individuals who did it are being made to call and apologize by their relatives.  Anyone want to comment on this I will tell them to read the blog and they can see how their actions effect others enjoyment of the area and the resort

Walking around the resort this weekend the fashion statement of the year was this splash of pink from the Bad Girls of the North.  The arrived in their Lexus’s to take over the resort complete with my favorite seat warmers (I don’t think Saturn makes seat warmers for my station wagon but I am going to check)  I sat down with these bad girls to listen to a interesting lecture on the most versatile word in the English language that you should only listen to when surrounded by ladies wearing pink Bad Girls Shirts

Who are these ladies who would take over Black’s Cliff with pink and the most versatile word in the English language you ask?

Don’t they look bad?  Don’t let their innocent looks deceive you the folks at Little Bohemia had to keep tabs on them from taking over the Dillenger exhibit.  Here is to being a Bad Girl in the Northwoods

So what was the most versatile word in the English Language, used as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb…..  Only these ladies and George Carlin know the answer.

In other news can you pick Poe out of this picture?  Even I had a hard time they all look alike

I had this one emailed to me today and had to share.  Gives you some perspective and a laugh

If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock one year ago you would
have $49.00 left.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all of the
beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have
$214.00 cash.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

It’s called the 401-Keg

A recent study found the average American walks about 900 miles a  year.

Another study found Americans drink, on the average,  22 gallons of alcohol a
year.  That means, on average, Americans get  about 41 miles to the gallon.

Makes You Proud To Be An American!

Pirates taking over Minocqua

Pirates taking over Minocqua

The Podriza crew showing their true pirating colors this weekend at Beef A Rama.  I put out a bounty for a picture of them and finally had a few Beef A Rama pics submitted from the Life Spring Coffee Clutch.  I hear the cannons even fired.  I would have loved to see the reaction of drivers in downtown Minocqua when teh cannon went off as they were driving past.

I am not sure if anyone enjoys Beef A Rama more than this crew.  Each year they come up with a new theme for TJ”s Butcher Block and put on quite a show.  Can’t wait to see what next year brings.
Parade of Beef

Parade of Beef

I missed a pic of the beef’s being carried down main street, but did get this picture of a cross dressing dairy cow being escorted by a sausage.  Only in Minocqua at Beef A Rama everyone has to experience it once.  Troy’s pet peeve about Beef A Rama is all the Dairy Cow costumes and the statues of Holestine Dairy Cow and Calf they have in down town.  Beef Cows (primarily fully brown or fully black) and Holestine Cows (the black and white ones) are two very different beasts.  Lets keep out cows straight in Wisconsin!

Parked quickly and snapped this pic to show what it is like to drive down the road to the resort lately.  Every day the color has popped more and more

Fall is here and boats are coming out

Hope you are enjoying the color pictures.  Walking out the door it is the easiest time of year to take pictures.  Next to Misty Lake pics and Pines in the Snow, fall color is the best.  Speaking of snow I hear flurries are in the forecast Monday…..

Introducing Lloyd Craig's gardening alter ego

Introducing Lloyd Craig's alter ego in Lynnette's garden

Llyod keeps watch at the top of the steps over Lynnette’s gardens. Keeping the deer, rabbits and chipmunks at bay is his main job. Keeping Ottis from digging everything up while chasing chipmunks is Craig and Lynnette’s job, Lloyd can only do so much

Lloyd's favorite flower

Lloyd's favorite flower

It came from Betty Lindeman and seems to love its spot in the sun. Not many flowers thrive up here looking like something out of a garden center but this batch seems to have found its home. Thanks Betty!

What is this happy flower.... Llyod (and Lynnette) couldn't remember the name

Llyod's helper at the other side of the garden Flyod

Llyod's helper at the other end of the garden Floyd

Floyd along with helping Lloyd with his tasks tries to keep an eye on where Craig leaves all his coffee cups through out the garden. Floyd has been getting ready for winter as you can see from his large warm look. Enjoy the views at Floyd’s end of the garden before the first big freeze. All these flowers survived Craig and Lynnette being gone for 2 weeks by grandchildren coming down and keeping them watered

Lloyd's enforcer

Lloyd's enforcer

When Lynnette has a deer spotted in her garden and Craig is off with the dogs who does she call, Lloyd and Flyod….. Nope… One look from this intimidating heron is all it takes to have them flicking their tails back.over the fence and leaving the flowers alone

One more week and the garden will look much different when the first freeze comes in.  Craig and Lynnette are enjoying every moment they can squeeze into our very short growing season.

Watching way too much CNN yesterday I needed a little perspective and peace.  I headed out the door to find some peace and calm outside.  I think I caught that picture below with Birchwood

I took a picture a couple of days ago from the other side of Birchwood looking up at this tree half changed.  The reds are popping out everywhere.  This picture is dedicated to Rich and Gloria and Kathy, Jordan and Sarah.  Hope this makes your day a little brighter.  The only thing I can’t put into the blog is the smell of fall, you have to come up for that

Hope this entry is responsible bringing a little of the stress in the nation down a little bit.  I still think we could hold a summit on the playground with all the players, everyone bring a dish to pass, including George W and Laura, Obama, McCain, Nancy Pelosi, and all the rest of them.  When you are trusting that the casserole made by everyone else is good and you are eating it, it goes along way on trusting someone.

Beef A Rama Crew ready for Beef A Rama 2008

Beef A Rama Crew ready for Beef A Rama 2008

Ususally this crew is bigger. Every year they dress up the beef for TJ’s Butcher Block with their antics and costumes. Last year they were the ugliest and funniest cheer leaders ever aloud to put on a uniform. This year I hear the theme is back to PIrates. They are missing their ring leader Tia, but the show must go on and the beef is being cooked

I have no idea I left before they got it together. I did smell grilling steak an hour later. Pictures of the pirate take over of Minocqua coming at the end of the weekend
