Anyone that knows chipmunks knows they are a ground squirrel.  They spend most of their time on the ground not in the trees.  They nest in the ground as well.  Once in awhile you see one going part way up in a tree, but not into the upper reaches of the trees like the gray and red squirrels.  This chipmunk had our attention as he was climbing a cherry tree in front of our office about 30 feet off the ground feasting on green cherries.  He was definitely tight rope walking up there but having the time of his life stuffing his cheeks

Mauvering around in the thin branches.  The chipmunk is lacking the long tail for balance that the squirrels have.

Stretching out for every last inch of his body in search of cherries

One of my favorite pictures.  Saying a prayer before trying to make it back down to the ground where he belongs
